Smothered Chicken

Smothered chicken is the ultimate comfort food – juicy, golden chicken covered in a creamy onion-mushroom gravy that melts in your mouth. It’s a Southern classic that turns a simple dinner into a cozy family feast.

Ingredients:

  • 4 bone-in chicken thighs (or breasts)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for coating)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup mushrooms (optional, sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 cups chicken bregular on your menu!

Method:

  1. Season & Dredge – Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Coat chicken well.
  2. Pan Fry – Heat butter in a skillet. Fry chicken until golden brown (don’t fully cook). Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy – In the same pan, sauté onion, mushrooms, and garlic until fragrant. Add 2 tbsp leftover seasoned flour, stir, then slowly whisk in broth and cream. Simmer until thick.
  4. Smother & Cook – Place chicken back into the gravy, cover, and let it simmer for 25–30 minutes until chicken is fully cooked and tender.
  5. Serve Hot – Pair with mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits
